Tom Carter- Founder
Tom Carter founded SportsMD Media Inc. to bring together three passions in his life- sports, health and helping others. An avid golfer, runner and a former collegiate All-American tennis player, Tom recognized a need in the health and sports industry to create a web-portal committed to improving the health and performance of athletes around the world.
In the true spirit of an entrepreneur, Carter became dedicated to making his vision of establishing SportsMD Media Inc. a reality. Using his own capital to fund the launch of SportsMD, while holding down a day job, Carter worked countless nights, weekends and holidays to get SportsMD off the ground. Tom has brought a long and successful business background with 15 years experience as a leader, building and managing teams in the wireless industry. Carter received his Bachelors from West Chester University and resides in Easton, CT with his wife of twelve years, and their three sons.
Brian Miller - Brand Management & Creative Direction
Brian’s 15 years of graphic design, branding and web development experience spans from being the in-house creative director of Gartner Inc. – a $1 billion consulting firm – to principal design director of the Brian Miller Design Group LLC. His client experience ranges from GE, NBC Universal, Delta Airlines, Rockstar and 2K Games, BMW, Nat Nast and Unilever.
Craig Finetti - Executive Producer
At 16 he took out a loan for first major purchase - a camcorder. By age 20, he was on the set of “The Wonder Years” television series as a camera assistant. Over the last 15 years, he has had the pleasure of working on a variety of films, television shows and commercials. In more recent years his work has spanned from producing programs for the web to creating video marketing tools for the technology and healthcare industries. Today, he is the executive producer of SportsMD. He brings together two passions - marketing and creative production - to create dynamic content for the SportsMD website. Craig resides in Las Vegas with his wife and two boys and is getting much closer to fixing his golf slice.
Asad Lateef - Programming & Development
Asad is currently the Vice President of Altman Business Solutions, LLC (www.altmansolutions.com) and oversees the company’s Software Technologies Group which deploys custom web based solutions, such as content management systems and help desk applications. Asad worked as a project manager for Trados Incorporated, a global provider of translation tools, where he designed and deployed their web based applications. Prior to Trados, Asad worked as a senior consultant for Bond Technologies and was instrumental in the launch of the Betty Crocker website. He started his career as a software developer and website designer at Pfizer. Asad has a B.S. Degree in Computer Science from Eastern Michigan University.
Asheesh Bedi, MD - Editorial Team
Dr. Bedi is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. He is currently the Assistant Professor for Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery, at the University of Michigan Health System. Dr. Bedi did a sports medicine fellowship at the Hospital for special Surgery and completed his residency at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery University of Michigan Medical Center. He graduated from Northwestern University with a Major in Biochemistry/Biophysics Summa Cum Laude and graduated from the University of Michigan Medical with School Academic Honors and Research Distinction.
Michael Miao, MD
Dr. Miao graduated from Harvard University and the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic training at the University of Pittsburgh and received advanced fellowship training in knee and shoulder arthroscopic and reconstructive techniques as well as Sports Medicine. He was also an Olympic Swimmer in the 23rd Olympic Games in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Miao is currently Head Team Physician for the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives, and is a team physician for USA Swimming and USA Water Polo. He has served as intern physician for the USOC (USA Women's Hockey) and is a contact physician for several local high schools. Dr. Miao emphasizes a careful and thoughtful approach to medical decision making and encourages patients' education and active participation in their own care.
Dr. Randa Bascharon, DO
Dr. Randa Bascharon is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and orthopedic surgery. She has a multidisciplinary approach to sports science and she is interested in women's health issues. Dr. Bascharon founded the Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Institute of Las Vegas in 2007.
Active in the southern Nevada sporting community, she currently donates her time by serving as the official team physician for the Las Vegas Show Girlz, a professional women's football team, in addition to being the team physician for Sierra Vista High School.
Dr. Terry Zeigler, EdD, ATC - Athletic Training
Combining a love of sports with a passion for the medical field, Terry has spent over twenty years working with college athletes as a Certified Athletic Trainer specializing in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries. Along with working alongside injured athletes, she spends much of her time in the classroom and clinical setting teaching and preparing students for careers as allied health professionals and professionals working in the field of Kinesiology.
Terry completed her doctorate in Higher Education with an emphasis in Health Care Education in 1999. She is certified as an Athletic Trainer through the National Athletic Trainers' Association's Board of Certification (1985). Her research has also focused on youth injury prevention and managing stress. She enjoys teaching coaches how to better protect and treat their athletes through conference presentations and workshops.
Dr. Robert Donatelli, PhD, PT, OCS - Physical Therapy & Performance
Has a long list of accomplishments and titles within his profession including; National Director of Sports Rehabilitation Physiotherapy Associates, personal physical therapist for Andy Roddick, ATP tour, physical therapist for the PGA Tour, Consultant for the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers, and Clinic Director of an outpatient facility providing Sports and Orthopedic rehabilitation. Dr. Donatelli has rehabilitated numerous professional athletes and was the Physical Therapist for the Champions Tour of Tennis, which included tennis legends such as Jimmy Conners and John McEnroe. He is the editor of Physical Therapy of the Shoulder 4th Edition, Orthopedic Physical Therapy 3rd Edition, and the proposed textbook, Sports Specific Rehabilitation. Estimated publication date is 2006. Dr. Donatelli has lectured on orthopedic topics throughout the United States, Canada, and England. Dr. Donatelli has lectured to the Romania Physical Therapy Association, a keynote speaker at the Australian National Physical Therapy Meeting, and to the Foot and Ankle Society meeting in Sweden.
Heidi Skolnik, MS, CDN, FACSM - Sports Nutrition
Heidi is a senior nutritionist at The Women’s Sports Medicine Center at Hospital of Special Surgery and part of the New York Road Race Sports Nutrition Team. Additionally, Heidi has worked with athletes from Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association (both NBA and WNBA), Men’s and Women’s Major League Soccer and Olympic level athletes, professional cyclists, marathoners, collegiate wrestlers, as well as athletes from numerous other sports and teams. Heidi spent 15 years working with the New York Mets baseball organization.
Page Love, MS, RD, LD, CSSD - Sports Nutrition
Page is one of the nations leading sport nutritionists and is a consultant for the US Tennis Association and served as the onsite dieititian for the Australian Open as well as consulting for the Womens Professional Tennis Tour (WTA) and writes a regular nutrition column for the mens professional tennis tour (ATP). Her credentials include being a registered dietitian of the American Dietetic Association, a health and fitness instructor certified by the American College of Sports Medicine, and a certified strength and conditioning specialist with the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Ms. Love has been featured as an expert by programs/publications such as CNN’s On the Menu and Headline News, Fox News, Women’s Sports Illustrated, Tennis Magazine, and People Magazine.
